The entire play is written in verse, in rhyming couplets of twelve syllables per line, very close to the classical alexandrine form, but the verses sometimes lack a caesura. There was a real Cyrano de Bergerac, and the play is a fictionalisation following the broad outlines of his life. Other film credits included his portrayal of the murdering hypnotist in Whirlpool (1949), a dictator in Crisis (1950), a Turkish official in Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and a drunken actor in Enter Laughing (1961).Cyrano de Bergerac is a play written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand.

Ferrer earned a bachelor's degree at Princeton University and began his career as an assistant stage manager in 1935.
